2022- present | The Invisible Work Project

The Invisible Work Project

As we emerged from the isolation of Covid, we found ourselves with a list of struggles, each one a reflection of the intense, challenging time we had endured. We began to share these lists with one another, and they were stark, packed with the weight of our collective experience. In reflecting on this, I was reminded of the often overlooked caretaking work we had been doing, what writer Rebecca Barry calls the ‘invisible work’. This inspired me to create a project inviting people who identify as women to share their lists through an online survey. I then used these submissions to create embroidered panels, documenting and interpreting their words, weaving a visual narrative of our shared experiences.
